Whether you're a therapist looking for a thought partner on a complex case, a psychiatrist who wants more tools in the room with your patients, a physician navigating the human side of medicine, or a leader trying to figure out how to actually lead, this work is for you.
Consultation and coaching are not therapy. They are focused, practical, and professionally oriented. You bring the challenge. You went through medical training. You know how to diagnose, how to prescribe, and how to manage complex psychiatric presentations. What medical training rarely teaches, and what your patients desperately need, is what happens in the room between the symptom review and the prescription pad.
Brief therapeutic skills can transform your clinical encounters. Not because you need to become a therapist, but because the relational and behavioral tools therapists use every day translate powerfully into psychiatric practice, even in a fifteen minute medication management appointment.
Dr. Montgomery offers focused coaching for psychiatrists and psychiatric NPs who want to expand their clinical toolkit and deepen their effectiveness with patients. Drawing on her background in academic medicine and years of work alongside medical providers, she understands the constraints of your setting and designs her coaching around what is actually realistic in your practice.
Skills training can include:
Safety planning that goes beyond checking a box, building genuine collaborative safety plans that patients actually engage with
Motivational interviewing techniques for patients who are ambivalent about treatment or medication
Brief CBT and behavioral activation strategies applicable in short appointment windows
Recognizing and responding to trauma presentations in psychiatric settings
Managing difficult clinical relationships and therapeutic ruptures
Documentation of therapeutic interventions in medical settings

Every therapist, no matter how experienced, benefits from a space to think out loud about their work. Complex cases, ethical dilemmas, countertransference that's harder to shake than usual, clients who aren't moving, or the quiet accumulation of carrying other people's pain. These are the things that don't always fit neatly into supervision and don't belong in your personal therapy either. They belong here.
Dr. Montgomery offers peer consultation for licensed therapists across specialties. She brings particular depth in trauma, anxiety, and work with high achieving and medical populations, as well as extensive training in CPT, PE, EMDR, CBT, ACT, and ERP. Whether you're looking for a one-time consultation on a specific case or ongoing collegial support, this is a space to think carefully, get honest feedback, and leave with more clarity than you came in with.
What peer consultation can address:
Complex or stuck cases where a fresh perspective would help
Trauma-informed approaches and evidence-based treatment planning
Working with high achieving, avoidant, or treatment-resistant clients
Managing countertransference and therapist burnout
Ethical considerations and clinical decision making
Building or refining your clinical identity and niche

You became a physician to help people. But somewhere in training, the relational and behavioral dimensions of patient care got less attention than the technical ones. And yet some of the most challenging aspects of practicing medicine have nothing to do with diagnosis or treatment. They have to do with people.
The patient who won't take their medication no matter how clearly you explain the consequences. The family that can't agree on a care plan. The person in your office who clearly needs mental health support but refuses a referral. The conversation about a terminal diagnosis that no one prepares you for. These are the moments where brief therapeutic skills make a real difference, for your patients and for you.
Dr. Montgomery offers coaching for physicians who want to feel more confident and effective in the human dimensions of their work, without adding hours to their already impossible schedule.
Coaching for physicians can include:
Behavior modification strategies for medication adherence and lifestyle change
Safety assessment and collaborative safety planning for patients with mental health concerns
Effective communication strategies for difficult conversations, including end of life discussions, delivering bad news, and navigating family conflict
Motivational interviewing for patients who are ambivalent or resistant to recommended treatment
Setting appropriate limits with patients while maintaining a therapeutic relationship
Recognizing signs of psychiatric crisis and knowing when and how to intervene

Leadership is a skill set, not a personality trait. And it is one that most people in medicine and mental health were never formally taught. You were promoted, appointed, or elected because you were exceptional at your clinical work. That expertise matters. But leading a team, a department, a practice, or an organization requires a different kind of intelligence, and developing it is some of the most meaningful professional work you can do.
Dr. Montgomery brings a background in academic medicine, training in relational and psychological approaches to human behavior, and direct experience working within complex institutional systems. She understands the particular challenges of leading in healthcare and mental health settings, where the stakes are high, the personalities are strong, and the culture often makes vulnerability feel like a liability.
Leadership coaching can address:
Communication and conflict resolution within teams and across institutional hierarchies
Developing your leadership identity and style in a way that feels authentic rather than performed
Managing and mentoring high achieving, sensitive, or difficult team members
Navigating institutional politics without losing yourself in the process
Building a team culture that supports wellbeing and reduces burnout
Setting a vision and holding people accountable while maintaining relationships
Work-life sustainability for leaders who are running on fumes
Pricing:
$225 per 50 minute meeting
5 Meeting Commitment: $1000 ($200 per meeting)
What to Expect
Consultation and coaching sessions are 50 minutes and conducted via telehealth, which means you can join from your office, between patients, or anywhere you can carve out an uninterrupted hour. There are no long-term commitments required. Some clients come for a single focused session. Others find ongoing consultation to be a regular part of their professional practice. We can figure out what makes sense for you.
This is a collegial, direct, and practically oriented space. Dr. Montgomery will not tell you what you want to hear. She will tell you what she actually thinks, with care and without condescension, because that is what good consultation looks like.
